We’ve always applauded the 30-year-old’s strong pro-choice stance.
But in this hour-long episode, the New York native declared during the podcast that she actually wishes she had an abortion at some point in her life, exclaiming:
“Now I can say that I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had.”
Now, if you’re wondering what on earth would inspire Miz Dunham to regret never undergoing such a traumatizing decision and subsequent medical procedure, she remembered a past trip to a Texas Planned Parenthood.
She recalled a girl had asked the actress to open up about her own experience with abortion, and Lena reflected on her reaction at the time, saying:
“I sort of jumped. ‘I haven’t had an abortion,’ I told her. I wanted to make it really clear to her that, as much as I was going out and fighting for other women’s options, I myself had never had an abortion.”
Lena then recognized she was subconsciously enforcing the negative stigma surrounding the procedure, adding:
“And I realized then that even I was carrying within myself stigma around this issue. Even I, the woman who cares as much as anybody about a woman’s right to choose, felt that it was important that people know that I was unblemished in this department.”
While it’s good the celeb was able to be self-aware regarding her reaction, her controversial comment completely negated that.
And people on Twitter are GOING IN. Ch-ch-check out the reactions (below):

Give Lena Dunham credit. It’s quite a feat to be universally disliked by both Democrats and Republicans but she’s pulling it off.

Lena Dunham says she wishes she could have an abortion. Let’s remember, women who have abortions never wished that upon themselves.

Lena Dunham is to morals like Michael Moore is to fitness.
An example of what not to be.

Lena Dunham said she wishes she had an abortion. Judging by the reactions I’ve seen on Twitter, a lot of people wish her mom had one too.

I kind of thought that Lena Dunham was going to be our generation’s Woody Allen, but it turns out she’s our generation’s Woody Allen.
