Fisher insisted the 60-year-old ultimately “really loved the film” but admitted it took her a while to get to that point, saying:
“At first we had to kind ofshe was a little shocked at the intimacy of it.”
The filmmaker explained the When Harry Met Sally star was even irritated by the picture at first, but ended up loving how it painted her iconic momma, adding:
However, she actually liked how it turned out!
And while she was worried about conflicts with her Disney contract, Fisher did reflect on a funny moment cameras captured while Carrie was training for her role as General Leia:
“She does this workout to trim down for Princes Leia and she finishes the workout and lights a cigarette and drinks a Coca-Cola, and the trainer’s like, ‘Carrie, no!’ and grabs the Coke and pours it out. The next thing you see her assistant putting Coca-Colas in the refrigerator. That was Carrie, a real original.”
Bright Lights premieres Saturday, January 7 at 8 p.m. on HBO.
